Depopulating Hell
Jesus said this in Matthew 7:13-14: Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. Let that sink in. Many will enter the gate to destruction. Few will enter the way to life. Put in an eternal context: many will spend eternity separated from God- and that separation happens in what we commonly know as "hell". What comes to mind when you hear "hell"? Flames? Smoke? Being tormented by demons forever? A phrase one might say when they are shocked? We don't spend a lot of time talking about hell- and much of our thinking is shaped by popular stereotypes rather than biblical theology- often to the point that hell is taken more figuratively than literally. Biblically, however: hell is a very real place. And the reality of hell informs the heartbeat of our vision as a church to give everyone opportunities to follow Jesus. We want to be a part of depopulating hell and populating heaven- which is why we're starting a new series this Sunday called "Depopulating Hell".
